Who is Rajkummar Rao?
Raj Kumar Yadhav, known as Rajkummar Rao, was born on August 31, 1984. He is an amazing Indian actor and the recipient of three Filmfare awards, an Asia Pacific Screen Award, and a National Award.
He was born in Prem Nagar, Gurugram, Haryana, India. His father, Satyapal Yadhav, was a government employee and his mother, Kamlesh Yadhav, was a homemaker. Rajkummar has two older siblings. His parents have died.
Rajkummar Rao passed the 12th standard from Blue Bells Model School and graduated from Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College (University of Delhi).
Rao has attractions to acting since his childhood. He participated in the school plays and did theatre at the Shri Ram Centre in Delhi when he was in college. Manoj Bajpayee influenced him a lot and to become an actor. Rao did a two-year course at the Film and Television Institute of India in 2008.
He started to meet the casting directors and visiting studios. In 2010 Rao makes a small appearance as a newspaper reader in Ram Gopal Varma’s film Raan. After that, he found out that director Dibakar Banarjee was looking for newcomers for his film Love Sex Aur Dhoka. Rao auditioned for that and got it. The film was successful, and he received positive reviews for his performance.
In 2011 Ekta Kapoor, who was the producer of Ragini MMS, cast him for the film. Ragini MMS film was a box-office success. Then he did a crime thriller Shaitan in 2011. Rao played a cop and earned positive reviews for his performance.
Anurag Kasyap was impressed by his performance in the film Love Sex Aur Dhoka and cast him on his 2012 film Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2 which, was the sequel of Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 1. The film became a financial success. He next appeared in Bedabrata Pain’s historical film Chittagong and Reema Kagti’s film Talaash: The Answer Lies Within. This film starred Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Kareena Kapoor in the lead roles, and it becomes one of the highest-grossing of 2012.
He was a part of Abhishek Kapoor’s film Kai Po Che inspired by Chetan Bhagat’s novel The 3 Mistakes of My Life.
Then Rao appeared in Hansal Mehta’s film, which was a biographical drama Shahid and he played the role of late lawyer Shahid Azmi. Rajkummar Rao received the National Film Award for Best Actor and the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film. In 2013 his release was Boyss to Boyss Hain.
He acted as a manipulative fiancé in the 2013 comedy-drama Queen, and it was successful at the box office. Rao has appeared in such films as City Lights in 2014, Doli ki Doli in, and Hamari Adhuri Kahani in 2015. He worked with Mehta in the film Aligarh based on the life of professor Ramchandra Siras. Manoj Bajpayee played the lead role, and Rao appeared as a journalist who tries to dig the story.
Then he teamed up with Vikramaditya Motwane for his directional film Trapped in 2016.
In 2017 Rao appeared in Behen Hogi Teri with Shruti Haasan then in the romantic comedy Bareilly Ki Barfi co-starring with Kriti Sanon and Ayushmann Khurrana. The film earned Rao a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.
His next film was Amit V. Masurkar’s Newton, which was a black comedy. This film earned him Asia Pacific Screen Award for Best Actor.
Rao did a cameo appearance in Dinesh Vijan’s Raabta in 2017. That year his final release was Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana, which gained mixed reviews. He also did his digital appearance in the mini web series Bose: Dead/Alive. Rao portrayed the role of India’s nationalist Subhash Chandra Bose. Next, he teamed up with Mehta again and played the role of a terrorist Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh for the film Omerta.
In 2018 Rao appeared in the Musical comedy Fanney Khan which was a remake of the 2000 Belgium film Everybody’s Famous! Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anil Kapoor co-starred with him for the film. His next movie was Amar Kahshjk’s directional horror-comedy Stree. Shraddha Kapoor co-starred with him, and it was a major success for him. His final release of that year was 5 Weddings.
In 2019 Rao appeared in Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga, Judgemental Hai Kya, Made in China. In 2020 Rao’s first release was Ramesh Sippy’s directional film Shimla Mirchi, released on Netflix.
