His father worked in a textile factory, and his mother was a nurse. He graduated from T.L. Hanna High School and attended Howard University in Washington, DC. He graduated from there with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in directing. Then Boseman attends Oxford Summer Program in British American Drama Company in London. His teacher Phyliciya Rashad helped him a lot to take part in it.
After he returns to the US, he wanted to write and direct so, Boseman initially started to learn acting so that he could relate to actors. Then he joins the Digital Film Academy in New York City.
